Navigation Software Program
The Bandon Submarine Cable Council (BSCC) announces a program to provide up to $300 per vessel of BSCC members who do not currently have a computer-based navigation software program capable of showing multiple undersea cable routes. Under the program, BSCC members who would like to use a computer-based plotting system are given help with the cost of the software. BSCC trawlers that purchase qualifying software after June 5, 2003 may receive the actual cost of the software up to $300 per vessel. The vessel owner or a marine electronics dealer on behalf of a vessel owner can apply for reimbursement for the actual cost of the software, up to $300. Reimbursement is contingent upon the vessel purchasing software capable of loading Maptech© AT&T electronic cable awareness charts on CD after the adoption date of this program, June 5, 2003, and then loading and maintaining Oregon cable route information in the plotter program. Vessel owners or marine electronics dealers must provide the BSCC with a copy of a receipt showing the software purchased, the vessel the software was installed, the purchase date and the priced paid. AT&T supplies, free of charge, Maptech electronic charts for the US West coast. Any software based navigation program that can display these charts such as P-Sea WindPlot ©, Maptech Offshore Navigator © or Nobeltec Visual Navigation Suite © qualifies for the program. Vessels that currently have a navigation software program capable of displaying the AT&T charts are not eligible for this program but are invited to request a free chart CD. The goal of this program is to assist vessel owners to obtain plotter programs that display tows and undersea cable routs in the areas the vessel fish. The software programs must be licensed legal copies sold by a marine electronics dealer and only loaded onto one vessel.
